Terminology
management

Consistency is the backbone of high-quality translation. Here’s how
we handle the words that define your business.

Language evolves. Your market shifts. And so do the terms that shape how your company communicates.

Managing terminology across languages, document types, and product lines requires ongoing precision. Our terminology management service identifies key terms in your documentation, develops specialized glossaries, and tracks updates to the essential language that defines your company’s communication.

Your words, consistently right

Multilingual Glossary

A well-structured glossary is the foundation of consistency in translation. We compile key terms from your content, define approved translations, and store them in a centralized database. This ensures that product names, technical terminology, and brand-specific language remain clear and uniform across all languages.

Terminology Review

We assess your existing terminology for accuracy, consistency, and relevance. This includes identifying outdated or conflicting terms and aligning everything with regulatory standards and internal preferences. The result is refined, standardized terminology that reflects your industry and business needs.

Cleanup and Consolidation

Over time, terminology can become inconsistent, especially in fast-moving industries. We consolidate fragmented glossaries, remove redundancies, and establish a single, reliable reference that simplifies communication and streamlines future translations.

Translation technology built for precision

Precision begins with consistency. When technical terms or brand concepts are translated differently within the same document, approvals slow down, understanding falters, and your image is diluted. At Wordloc, we prevent that by using custom glossaries designed specifically for your products, sector, and regulatory environment. These glossaries are seamlessly integrated into our translation platform. Every approved term—product names, technical vocabulary, regulatory language—is stored and applied in real time during the Translation process. As the translator works, the Translation software checks each entry automatically. If a key term is missing or the translation diverges, it is flagged immediately. Reviewers receive the same guidance, making their work more focused and effective. With every new project, your glossary evolves. The result is faster delivery, fewer errors, and a voice that remains unmistakably yours in every language.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a termbase?

A termbase, or terminology database, is a glossary integrated directly into our translation software. It becomes part of your company’s project data and allows real-time term validation within the translation interface.

How does a termbase work in practice?

During translation, the system automatically cross-references each term with the approved termbase. If a term is listed, the correct version is suggested or applied instantly. If a different variation is entered, the system flags it, preventing delivery until the inconsistency is resolved. Reviewers receive the same alerts, allowing any errors to be caught and corrected before delivery.

How do you create a glossary?

It begins with compiling a list of key terms and their definitions based on your content and area of expertise. You can provide existing documents or reference materials, or we can extract terminology from previous translations. We can also build a glossary from scratch using authoritative industry sources, for instance, MedDRA for clinical research. Our linguists then refine, translate, and validate the list. Once approved, your glossary is converted into a termbase and integrated into our translation platform.

How does terminology management help reduce translation costs?

A well-structured termbase prevents unnecessary revisions, reduces review time, and speeds up the translation process. When translators use the correct terms from the start, consistency is maintained across all documents, eliminating the need for costly adjustments later. It also minimizes back-and-forth communication, saving time and resources on every project.

What’s the difference between a termbase and a translation memory (TM)?

A termbase is a curated glossary with approved terms, definitions, and usage rules—ensuring consistent application of key terminology. A translation memory (TM), on the other hand, stores full segments from past translations, which can be reused to maintain consistency and reduce costs. Both tools work together on our translation platform.

Can I provide my own glossary for a project?

Absolutely. If your company already has an approved glossary, we can integrate it into our system. We can also review and update your glossary to include new terminology as needed.

Does Wordloc offer translation services for individuals?

No. We work exclusively with companies and organizations.
